Specialty Agents was formed over 23 years ago to get legislative recognition for independent agents. Up until then, agents did not have a viable option for getting their concerns before the lawmakers in Tallahassee. Specialty Agents stepped in and filled that void.
The most recent of these successes was the reinstatement of PIP – No Fault. Most agents were not too concerned that PIP was going to sunset in 2007, but were also unaware that this would eliminate mandatory insurance in Florida! Specialty Agents were aware of this fact and made sure the lawmakers were also aware. Keeping insurance compulsory and tracking those who abuse the system is an essential ingredient and necessary to our way of life. In addition, Specialty Insurance Agents Association also fought for the right for agents to charge MVR fees (that are not recoverable from the carriers); an inspection fee in counties where inspections were mandatory and a fee for PD/PIP policies was another victory won in the legislature.
Specialty Insurance Agents Association is different as our mission statement evolves around the agent and the perpetuation of the agency business. These successes in Tallahassee continue to allow Specialty Insurance Agents Association to keep our needs in front of the lawmakers and have garnered much needed respect to our industry. Specialty Insurance Agents Association continues that fight today in our attempts to secure a payment fee as well as a few other items important to today’s agent.
Specialty Insurance Agents Association is made up of 500 individual independent agents throughout Florida. These agents work hard to support their families; comply with stringent regulation of our industry; and deal with the constant changes within the industry. Does that sound familiar? ‘I am already a member of another association, why should I join? ’you ask. Specialty Agents is the best value around. Your membership is not based on the size of your agency. There is one-flat fee for your office (and associate members who join through your agency). Being a member provides discounts to the Specialty Agents trade fair which keeps growing every year giving you access to carriers and markets. As a member you are also eligible purchase the following: E&O at reduced rates; Campain Action Fund membership which helps our political efforts. Most of these benefits, although copied, are not as valuable unless offered by Specialty Agents (brochures outlining all of these programs are enclosed). The Unite magazine, the trade magazine made available through membership, provides timely and important insurance-related articles to assist you in the growth and perpetuation of your agency while keeping you informed about latest rulings that affect your livelihood.
